In 2002 Ali and Alex Cooke set out on an around the world trip and were inspired by the talented artisans they met along the way. On their return, they moved to rural Devon and started working with artisans throughout the world, supporting and celebrating their skills by bringing their products to a wider audience. The name ‘Nkuku’ was borrowed from a hut in Zambia, and their first product was a leather journal with recycled paper that is still in the collection today. The Nkuku team and collections have grown, but the hands-on approach remains the same, working with all their makers personally.
