Recycling old electricals
So you’ve been gifted some swish new electricals? You lucky things. But what do you do with your old ones? We are proud to be part of the distributor take-back scheme (DTS) which makes recycling hassle free.
Recycling EEE
Why is it important to recycle electrical and electronic equipment?
Sadly, unwanted electrical equipment is the UK’s fastest-growing type of waste. When left to break down in landfills these items can cause the toxic substances used to manufacture the products to harm the environment. This impacts all kinds of wildlife and even human life.
Unless properly disposed of, electronic waste like laptops, televisions, mobile phones and kitchen appliances can pose environmental and health risks from exposure to lead, mercury and other heavy metals.
The good news is, many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. And it’s so easy to make sure your items are recycled in the right way.
Wheeled-bin symbol
What is the crossed out wheeled-bin symbol?
All unwanted Electrical and Electronic Equipment requires separate collection and recycling as they often contains hazardous substances. As a handy reminder that old electrical equipment can be recycled (or should be considered for repair or reuse), it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. It’s important you DO NOT throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol) in your regular bin. Anything that runs on electricity (or that contains electrical parts) needs to be disposed of responsibly in order to avoid damage to the environment and fill landfills.
