So, what’s on the cards for 2024 weddings? We chat with Ashleigh Li, founder and creative director to get the downlow on everything you need to know:

Sustainable weddings:

First up, sustainability is more than just a buzzword - it's a lifestyle. Expect to see more decor sourced from antique dealers, garden centres and using trees and potted plants in place of cut flowers. Ask your caterers what their food waste policy is - if you’re planning yourself, it’s on you to get into the details of your wedding’s impact on the environment. If you are working with a planner, these are the details they will highlight to you when planning your big day.

Refined contemporary celebrations

In terms of aesthetic, we're seeing a move away from the traditional and ostentatious wedding day and a firm move towards refined contemporary. Madeline Brockway’s wedding was the multi-million dollar wedding no one saw coming, yet in the months that followed the family drama was a high-impact crash. Reflecting soft, refined, quiet luxury is the way forward for 2024 - you want your wedding remembered for all the right reasons.

Keep it clean

Clean lines, minimalist decor, and a neutral colour palette are all popular choices reflecting quiet luxury. There's also a continued move towards multi day weddings or wedding weekends, with less formal dress codes and a focus on creating a fun and inclusive atmosphere to spend quality time with family and friends.

The colour pallet for 2024

Colour-wise, think updated monochrome : couples will be opting for muted, earthy tones like sage green, dusty rose and buttery yellows mixed with cream and black. These colours add a calm, yet modern twist on a minimalist wedding.

Destination weddings

Destination weddings are back in 2024! After so many years of travel uncertainty post pandemic, 2024 is the first year a wedding abroad feels achievable without a tonne of extra hoops to jump through.

Light it up

Lighting is another growing trend. Instead of harsh spotlights, think soft, warm, ambient lighting. Think dinner candles but in beautiful candleholders, eye catching uplighters, lighting installations & even personalised gobos. Reduce your floral budget and repurpose into your rental budget to nail this look - lighting is about the cheerleader effect, more is more for an immersive experience!

Bespoke weddings

Lastly, personalisation is key. Couples are moving away from cookie-cutter weddings and making their special day truly their own. This could mean monogrammed napkins, personalised favours, or even an 8 course tasting menu based on your favourite restaurants. It's all about infusing your personality into every detail, and not following the flock just because your mum says ‘that’s what I did at our wedding’.
